grey and black wings

Just a quick post to let everybody know i haven't completely dissappeared.

Here are some wings i made.

There's a couple more pictures, and some thoughts i've had recently about how i want to run my costume making from here on out,

I'll make a more detailed post later in the fursuit comm, but for now here are some pictures.

Working lots of overtime lately :P saving money and thinking about going back to school. Free time is hard to come by, so is cash, and i would really like to continue making costumes, but i need to streamline things. I'm going to be keeping to fairly small projects (heads and wing sets mostly), I'm switching to balaclava method to save me time building the frame for the head, and i'm not scrimping on materials. I've decided that i want to make the things i do make really fucking awesome, so i'm going to try really hard to bring the quality up a few notches. My heads will have more durable jaws, eyes, etc. wings will have more feathers, and be made with denser foam, and i'm working on movement mechanisms while i'm at it. My prices are going to have to go up a little, but i really want to make sure i make it worth the while.

(If you already have a project in line with me, don't worry, your price will stay where i quoted it)

That's all for now

pete and pete

Anybody else watch this show constantly as children?

We got it from netflix recently and it was... not as good as i remember. BUT there was an episode that either i had never seen or had completely forgotten where old Pete gets a job as the kid at the golf course who drives the little armored truck around the driving range picking up golf balls, that everyone takes pleasure in pelting (a job i had btw, so i already love this premise). Pete is naturally ashamed of this humiliating position, and so to conceal his identity... he... wears a fursuit. A baggy, old, matted, hideous, deformed-looking, taxidermy-jawset-having, grizzly bear fursuit. Not only does this provide another layer of protection from the golf balls, but allows pete to become one with nature, before the town and his parents ruin everything in the usual fashion.

WTF!?!? XD XD XD

some almost there stuff

Well, although i'm on schedule with all my current customers, it may be a little longer yet before i have some finished stuff to show. But i have some very exciting things going, so i thought i'd post up some W.I.P. photos, so folks can see where i am with stuff.

This turned out to be a more challenging project than i had anticipated. Six-fingered (two-thumbed?) demon paws, with an articulated false thumb. I'm still working on perfecting the mechanism so the thumb moves smoothly with the wearer's thumb. I need a few more supplies.

I know i heard somewhere about someone using this kind of framework before (can't remember who) so everybody else has probably already figured this out, but i was thrilled to have put it together :) PVC pipe is really really cheap and is sold alongside similarly cheap connectors, which can be assembled into a variety of shapes if you use your imagination and used to play with K'NEX, leggo's, erector sets, or other similar toys as a child.

It is perfect for wings, as gluing/not gluing selected pieces in selected joints makes a strong frame which is also collapsible. I feel that with a heat gun i could pull off some pretty awesome shapes. I'll be doing a more specific step-by-step for this later when it's more finished. Next up: moving wings, the springy kind, and the kind you can open using hidden strings.

Everything is sewn for this project, i just need to attach that fur to those wings, and arrange a suitable strap system for them. These wings were sort of a disaster, but they're almost done now *phew* You can also see the feet bases in this picture they also need mostly gluing and a little more sewing.

I've been dragging my feet on this project, i guess cause i don't have a deadline for it, but also it hasn't been particularly engaging. I know i'll like the end product well enough, but it's brought me to a few conclusions about what i'm gonna work on making in the future. But more on that later as well.

That's all for now, thanks for stoppin' by!
